Testing that ink wash technique on Page 1 of my next Teddy Scares 10 page story.
Same deal as before: Light pencils laid down, then I cover the whole page with Luma brand Amber Yellow ink mixed with water. After it dries, I work out the lineart with black brush and pen, then shadows are dropped in with tan and sepia Copic markers. Highlights are added with a Presto white-out squeeze pen. Maybe a bit low-tech, but I like it. I also pushed around some ink with my fingers here and there just for a little dirtying-up texture.

Not a lotta people know that I have my degree in Painting (what a degree), so it was really fun treating this like a little mini-painting instead of a comic page. I'm definitely gonna be using this technique more.

Daredevil Commission.

A few months back, I got hit up by Greg McQueen, a comic collector who's currently doing a series of Daredevil cover recreations. I'm a big DD fan, so I jumped on it. Fun stuff. And a Kirby cover, no less.

Here's what I came up with. Pen, ink, Copic Marker, acrylic paint and a few other goodies.

As an artist that works regularly with computers, it's a whole other test to work without the safety net of Ctrl-Z. I liked it a lot, and I'm definitely gonna do more of this sorta thing.

Shape of Things to Come.

I've been stuffed under a rock for a while, cooking up all kinda goodies, and it's almost time to unveil them. FINALLY. But not yet. Heh.

But in the spirit of keeping the blood flowing, I figured I'd post a few one-panel peeks at what's on my plate. Here we go...




First up is my contribution to the DFC, St. Spooky's School for Girls, written by Tony Lee, which will be debuting in the UK this month. Spooky's has been a great opportunity to just go absolutely insane with my color palette. Seriously, the colors were my favorite part of the whole project. Crazy liberties were taken.



Next is a mystery project that I'm extremely excited about. Let's just say that it has afros and lots of guns. Oh, and Josh Fialkov is writing it, so expect lots of crazy. This is the quick and dirty project I've been dreaming about while working on all my more kid-friendly projects.




And of course, there's Jason Mason, my Tokyopop pilot written by Brandon Jerwa. It's officially in the can, so expect that to go online shortly. OH...and expect a little viral activity. Just a little...



I'm also starting my next volume of Teddy Scares for APE. Working on a bit edgier of a look for that.

And the mysterious panel at the top of this post is a panel from Shortbus Superstars! that's never been seen. Looks like a gathering of monsters of some sorts. Hmm...

T-Shirt Commission. For sale soon on DirtyCoast.com.

As Dirty Coast is a New Orleans-based company, the design is inspired by Katrina, of course. Having gone to N.O. for the Antigravity Expo earlier this year and seeing the cities of tents that still exist there after all this time, I was taken aback and really wanted something with some resonance. Hopefully, I got that.
